If you miss the deadline
No grace period and no late fee exist. SDCL 36-4-24.2: failure to renew on or before March 1 in the odd-numbered years "shall constitute a forfeiture of the license." A forfeited license may be renewed only at the board's discretion, upon payment of the fee and the application required for licensure by reciprocity (SDCL 36-4-19, 36-4-19.1); ARSD 20:47:06:01 sets reinstatement of a forfeited license at $400. The board's own page adds that forfeited licenses are not automatically eligible for renewal.
