A current out-of-state license in good standing with that state's CE satisfied can substitute for the CME proof. The board may require an examination, skills assessment, or refresher course if it suspects practice deficiencies.

No. New Jersey has one board: the State Board of Medical Examiners licenses both MDs and DOs (and podiatrists) on the same June 30 odd-year cycle, and the board's FAQ confirms DOs hold all the same practice authority as MDs.
Do I have to finish my CME before renewing? ▾
Yes. 100 credits (at least 40 Category 1) for the two years before renewal is a condition of biennial renewal, including the topic mandates such as the 2-credit sexual misconduct prevention course due before the close of the 2027 renewal. Waiver or extension requests must be sent by certified mail at least 60 days before expiration; hours are never prorated for mid-cycle licensure unless you qualify for the new-graduate initial-cycle exemption.
