If you miss the deadline
No grace period and no late-renewal window. The online renewal system closes at 11:59 pm EST on September 30 and is not available afterward. An unrenewed license expires; practicing on an expired license risks a civil fine of up to $50,000 (Health Occ. secs. 14-601, 14-606). The only path back is the online Physician Reinstatement application: $700 nonrefundable fee, a new criminal history records check, and 50 Category I or II CME credits (at least 25 Category I) in the 2 years preceding the reinstatement application. Revoked, surrendered, or suspended licenses cannot use the online reinstatement system.

What do I need on hand to complete the online renewal? ▾
Your Maryland license number, date of birth and last 4 of your SSN, a Visa/MasterCard/Discover card, CDS and DEA registration numbers and NPI if applicable, workers' compensation coverage information if applicable, and completion of the New Physician Orientation program if this is your first renewal after initial licensure.
Do I have to send CME certificates with my renewal? ▾
No, renewal is by attestation (50 Category I or II credits in the 2 years preceding expiration, at least 25 Category I; waived at your first renewal after initial licensure). The Board may audit you. If your credits were reported to ACCME's PARS, the Board verifies them there automatically; otherwise, audited physicians must send documentation by October 15, 2026. Keep CME records for 6 years.
How fast is the renewal processed and when do I get my license? ▾
You can download and print a digital copy of the renewed license and receipt immediately after payment. Completed applications are processed the next business day, and the Board's website shows the new expiration date within 1 to 2 business days.
