Renewal must be filed on or before that date; the online window opens only 56 days before expiration.

When is my Louisiana medical license renewal due? ▾
Every year, on or before the first day of the month in which you were born. LAC 46:XLV.415 provides that every license expires annually on the first day of the licensee's birth month.
How early can I renew? ▾
56 days before your expiration date. The board states on its Renewals page: "You may only renew 56 days before your expiration date." Reminder notices may arrive earlier, but the portal will not accept a renewal before that.
How much does renewal cost? ▾
$332 per year for an active MD/DO: a $300 renewal fee plus statutory $25 and $7 annual assessments under R.S. 37:1281, paid by credit/debit card in LaMED. Physicians age 70+ (or disabled) who have surrendered their controlled substance registrations qualify for a half-price renewal under LAC 46:XLV.418.
What happens if I miss my renewal deadline? ▾
If the license has been expired less than 1 year, you can still renew online through LaMED but will be assessed a late fee (statutorily capped at an amount equal to the renewal fee). If expired more than 1 year, you must file a reinstatement application: $632 if expired up to 2 years, $932 for 2-3 years, $1,232 for 3-4 years, plus 20 hours of Category 1 CME for each year since last renewal. Reinstatement is only available within 4 years of expiration; after that you must reapply for licensure.
Do DOs renew with a separate osteopathic board? ▾
No. Louisiana has no separate osteopathic board; the LSBME licenses and renews both MDs and DOs under the same rules and fees (the board's own fee line reads "Licensure- $382.00 (MD/DO)").
Do I have to use CE Broker? ▾
Yes. The board's Renewals page states that all LSBME licensees are required to use CE Broker to track their continuing education credits; renewal is tied to CME being satisfied there.
