If you miss the deadline
No grace period. The board states licenses not renewed by the license expiration date are unlicensed and may not practice. A forfeited MD or DO license may be restored within 2 years of expiration (MDG within 1 year) by requesting a restoration form, submitting it with a wet signature, the restoration fee, and documentation proving CE compliance for the previous biennium. After the restoration window the license is terminated and the physician must apply as a new applicant under current requirements.

The license is forfeited immediately; you are unlicensed and may not practice. You may restore within 2 years (MD/DO) or 1 year (MDG) by requesting a restoration form and submitting it with a wet signature, the restoration fee (MD $408, DOS $392, MDG $271 as posted), and documentation of CE compliance for the previous biennial cycle. After that window the license terminates and you must reapply as a new applicant.
I am a DO. Is my renewal the same as an MD's? ▾
Same board, different schedule and fee. Osteopathic physicians renew by June 30 of every even-numbered year (current period July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028) at $312.00, with renewals accepted May 4 to June 30, 2026. Hawaii has no separate osteopathic board.
Do I have to prove my CME at renewal? ▾
Renewal is attestation-based, but the board conducts random continuing-education audits after renewal (notice-of-audit letters for MDs, DOs and other license types are posted on the board's CE and Random Audit Information page). Hawaii requires 40 Category 1 credits per biennium for MDs, so retain your certificates.
